8/25/2023 0 Comments Lost city of zed pirate bayIt's a conclusion that's meant to be hopeful, but Charlie Hunnam's thoughts put a very dark spin on it. The Lost City Of Z depicts things very differently, with the main narrative of the theory ignored - but at the very end the film does use Percy Fawcett's compass as evidence of his possible survival. And now as all of those people were now really struggling because of the decline of the rubber boom over there, that last expedition went off to great fanfare and was very highly publicized.Īs I expressed in the interview, it's a pretty grim situation to think about, though it does make a certain degree of sense. And as you saw, the rubber trade was really filled with a lot of unscrupulous, villainous people. And yet he'd been there so many times and navigated so many difficult situations with such elegance and grace, I just didn't buy it.The other theory is that that whole area had fallen into such a period of economic decline by the time that he was doing those last expeditions - and actually the final expedition, though it was much smaller, was very well-financed, so we had all of this really great equipment. So the two options that we had were - the two that I give most credence to, theories of what might have happened - was A) he fell foul to a hostile tribe. The Lost City of Z is the name British surveyor Percy Fawcett gave to a secret city buried in the jungles of Chile that was said to have streets paved in silver and roofs made of gold. I don't think anybody believed that he found the lost city and decided that it was some paradise where he was never going to come back. Well, I think there are two distinct, slightly conflicting ideas of exactly what happened to him. He went on to explain the principal schools of thought in the matter, and why he thinks that natives weren't responsible for his character's death. Acknowledging that nobody really knows what happened to Percy Fawcett and his son in the depths of the Amazon, I asked the star about the conversations he had with James Gray and the research he did. His ring that he never took off, that was a gift from his son was found in a pawn shop several months after he disappeared.Ĭharlie Hunnam recently participated in the Los Angeles press day for The Lost City of Z, and part of our discussion during our one-on-one interview was about the decisions made with the ending. Because his compass did show up quite soon after his disappearance. The theory I subscribe to, or personally believe, is that it was the white man followed him into the jungle and killed him for his equipment. This was the angle chosen by writer/director James Gray, but Hunnam actually has some very different thoughts on what really happened to the man he portrayed. Lining up with theories from historians, the film depicts the duo running afoul of a cannibalistic tribe and being literally marched into darkness. In the final scenes of The Lost City Of Z, the mysterious fate of explorer Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam) and his son ( Tom Holland) is painted with a slightly ambiguous, but still rather scary brush.

8/25/2023 0 Comments From dawn till dusk showNevertheless, it’s come full circle since it brought him to El Mariachi, the still-groundbreaking indie that now serves as the impetus for Red 11 and the docuseries about its making that he developed at the El Rey network. That’s the way I’ll update it, because he’s not sure if they’re trying to kill him or just the side effects of the drugs.” Indeed, Rodriguez recalls there are many experiences from those days as the real-life Red 11 that, at the time, he wasn’t sure what was real and what was imagined. “But it probably won’t be as interesting as a behind-the-scenes story if it’s just a comedy about this place, so I’ll turn it into a thriller. “It was written at a time before I was even a filmmaker,” Rodriguez says of his original notes from 1993, which initially envisioned the film as a deeply ironic narrative. Read more: SXSW Film Festival 2019 Movie Round-Up It’s an incredible ecosystem I’d never seen before in a movie.” Rodriguez eventually wound up breaking into Hollywood by making a pseudo-sequel to El Mariachi via 1995’s Desperado (which starred Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek), but Red 11, titled after the number he actually had at the hospital, remained in the back of his mind waiting to evolve… or mutate. So people were familiar with the story, but the story of the actual hospital is really funny. I sold my body to medical research experiments and that became part of the whole movie: this guy bled for the movie. I was so young that that was the only thing I experienced that was odd and strange, and everyone agreed was really funny. “I’d forgotten the one story I was trying to sell to studios as my follow-up was Red 11, because it was the only life experience I had. “I happened to be reading my book again, and that chapter where I was a human lab rat,” Rodriguez says. Given El Rey-a name Rodriguez got out of Jim Thompson’s The Getaway novel from 1958-is what the filmmaker named his TV network after, we were curious of how he views the original Seth’s fate after leaving the bloodsuckers behind. Seth’s headed to a town called El Rey with a crime boss played by Cheech Marin, and he wants to get there solo. This is the 1996 cult classic that starred George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino (who also wrote the script) as a pair of small-time criminals turned big-time vampire slayers when their strip club south of the border is discovered to be a nest for the Undead.Īs we’ve always been curious about what Rodriguez’s exact thoughts were on that film’s ending, it was a good time to bring up the final moments where Clooney’s Seth Gecko get into a car, leaving the newly orphaned Kate (Juliette Lewis) to fend for herself. In this vein, he and his children just watched From Dusk Till Dawn for the first-time together-and not the TV series either. Thus his trip was one practically across the street when he begins to reflect on the making Red 11, a new thriller intrinsically linked to his first film El Mariachi, plus those early days that’ve become something akin to filmmaking legend. Whereas most other filmmakers descend onto Austin in early March for a whirlwind of press and festivities, Rodriguez lives here and will remain long after the banners come down. When Robert Rodriguez comes by our studio during SXSW, he’s maybe a little nostalgic. 8/25/2023 0 Comments Sas date formatsMore information: The full date long time ("F") format specifier. So sad, in fact, that he was brought to tears during a recent interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored. Peterson visited Piers Morgan Uncensored on Wednesday, where host Piers Morgan asked about Wilde having told Interview magazine that Chris Pine’s villainous character in her film Don’t Worry Darling is based on Peterson. Jordan Peterson is apparently very sad that Olivia Wilde based the Don’t Worry Darling villain on him. “If she really commits, if she really puts her mind and heart into it at this point and if you guys can make peace - and I respect your point of view, I respect hers - but if you guys can do it, what do you think?,” the director concludes her plea. Author and media personality Jordan Peterson got emotional when commenting on Olivia Wilde’s recent remarks about him. You know, I think this might be a bit of a wake-up call for Miss Flo, and I want to know if you’re open to giving this a shot with me, with us.” According to Wilde, her inspiration for Pine as Frank was none other than Jordan Peterson, the red meat-guzzling king of the incels, who more recently waged and lost a war with model Yumi Nu over. Calculate the change of entropy for some simple processes. Entropy change 353.8 - 596 -242.2 J K -1 mol -1 Notice that it is a negative value. ΔH The free energy comes mostly from a flow of thermal energy. ΔH > T * ΔS then the reaction is enthalpy-driven.The direction of a free energy change can be either enthalpy- or entropy-driven. ΔG0 - a nonspontaneous process - additional energy must put in for the reaction to happen (a round boulder being pushed up a hill). We begin by using the first law of thermodynamics: dE dQ - dW where E is the internal energy and W is the work done by the system. For gases, there are two possible ways to evaluate the change in entropy. We can also define it with regards to the change in free energy: The change in entropy is then the inverse of the temperature integrated over the change in heat transfer. The Gibbs free energy equation is:Įarlier, we talked about spontaneity of a process and how it is associated with entropy. It's a function of both enthalpy and entropy, and is used to predict the spontaneity of a processes. What is Gibbs free energy? It's the energy in a system available to do work on its surroundings at constant pressure and temperature. Every system tends toward stability, and, for an irreversible process, maximum stability is reached it when the system's energy is most disordered. The entropy of a system is strictly connected to the systems energy. As stated by a physicist Rudolf Clausius: "The entropy of the universe tends to a maximum." You intuitively know that the opposite process is not possible - the milk won't separate from coffee by itself.Īny spontaneous process increases the disorder of the universe. You observed that the milk quickly mixes with the coffee. Let's say you've made yourself a hot cup of coffee. It might sound complicated, but you'll understand it easily with an everyday example. It doesn't have to be a fast - it can even be still occurring when the heat death of the universe occurs - but if it would proceed without the addition of any outside energy, it's spontaneous. Show that the entropy change in the cyclic process of an ideal gas that include an isobar, an isochor, and an isotherm is zero. Solution The ice is melted by the addition of heat: Q mLf 50g × 335J / g 16.8kJ. The temperature is a constant, and we can therefore use Equation 4.7.1 in the calculation. It's one of the main determinants of the spontaneity of a reaction.Ī spontaneous process is one that doesn't require an outside source of energy to proceed. What is the entropy change of the ice Strategy Because the process is slow, we can approximate it as a reversible process. But why measure disorder, and is it even possible? Physically, we can't measure entropy, but we can calculate it. 8/25/2023 0 Comments Windbound switch pre orderThe sailing portion here implores you to make sure your boat is fit and ready to survive some tough waves and obstacles, as the music soars and you cascade to another exit. Once all three are turned on, you then head to a structure in the north of the area and move to an interstitial sailing challenge, as well as a showcase of pictorial visions of Kara’s ancestors for a story that’s neat but not something I found all that compelling. You have to climb each one to activate them. Progression through a chapter involves sailing around looking for three towers. The sailing is demanding, requiring you to master raising and lowering your sails to cut through the wind or effectively harness it to move fast.įor my first playthrough, I mostly avoided combat with larger animals, which was an effective strategy, though that limited the kind of gear and items I could make, which felt like it hurt me in the end game. For better or worse, there is no way to change the winds, which can be annoying at times. The sailing feels a lot like Wind Waker, especially when the open water music starts to kick into gear. A mixture of melee and ranged attacks have to be used together to effectively take down bigger prey. Combat isn’t overly complex, though there is a lot of ability to experiment, much like Breath of the Wild. That’s where a lot of the Zelda comparisons shine. While it does get tense and stressful, it’s a surprisingly serene gameplay loop. Your movement through each chapter involves exploring islands looking for resources, staying aware of creatures roaming around, crafting new weapons, gear, or accessories, and then sailing around to look for new islands. It’s similar to the difference between the basic game and Master Mode in Breath of the Wild. Both styles are tough and enjoyable in their own right, doing a great job of satisfying those wanting a sterner challenge while also offering something that is great for those who want something more forgiving. Additionally, the combat is a little easier in the second difficulty. Storyteller only kicks you back to the beginning of your current chapter while letting you keep all of your inventory. Survivalist makes it so once you die, you start all the way at the beginning with just the inventory on your person nothing from bags or boxes. Two difficulty options exist: Survivalist and Storyteller. Of course, there’s a cost in doing so, because Windbound is a spin on the roguelike style. It’s still easy to play it safe, but you can also be risky, attacking fearsome wildlife to get rare drops from them, including meat and horns. More storage can be added thanks to wearable bags and containers on your boat. Almost everything of consequence can be made with just rocks and grass, but you have limited inventory so you can't carry everything. The resource collection is simple in the first of five chapters, though it deepens and widens as you progress. From there, you have to collect resources, climb towers, and build various weapons, accessories, and boats. All you have at the beginning is a knife. She then winds up entering a mysterious portal that takes her to an island in the middle of a relatively empty ocean. To open, a storm causes your heroine, Kara, to capsize in the water. Thankfully, the answer is yes, because Windbound, in its mystique, challenge, and shockingly solid Switch port, is soundly excellent. The risk at the center of Windbound is regarding the question of whether or not this will all coalesce into something great. On the other hand, the overall presentation, third-person perspective, and emphasis on sailing drove visions of The Legend of Zelda series into my head, primarily Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild. On one hand, the core survival-based gameplay calls to mind well-worn modern classics like Don’t Starve and The Raft. A precarious balance of inspirations helps to make Windbound something unique and special. 8/25/2023 0 Comments Summer equinox solar radiationIt is obvious that the highest amount of solar energy will be received by a collector that is perpendicular to the sun’s rays. To calculate the amount of energy reaching a surface, we not only need to know the position of the collector plate, but also its tilt – the angle that the collector makes with a horizontal plane. In southern hemispheres, the earth’s tilt is in the other direction and the seasons are reversed ( b). In the northern hemisphere, the angle of the earth’s rotation tilts toward the sun in the summer and away from it in the winter. Why then are summers warmer than winters?Īnswer: The earth’s rotational axis is not perpendicular to its orbit around the sun, but tilts by 23.5 degrees. Question: The data collected on the motion of the earth around the sun shows that the distance between the earth and the sun is slightly shorter in the winter than in summer (Figure 2). The earth’s (terrestrial) emission is in the infrared region of the spectrum and averages at around 172 W/m2. Like the sun, the earth is also emitting radiation, but at a much lower rate. Because the actual orbit of the earth around the sun is elliptic, the average distance varies by about 3.4% during the year and the solar constant varies between 1,300-1,400 W/m2. The solar constant is not truly “constant”, however. This amount is called the solar constant and represents the energy from the sun, per second, that falls on a surface perpendicular to the sun’s rays and just outside the earth’s atmosphere. Of all the radiation emitted by the sun, only a very small fraction is intercepted by the earth’s atmosphere. Furthermore, because of the higher angle of incidence in summer, more of the sunlight is reflected off the glass than would be during the winter. For example, every square meter of the window of a house in Long Beach receives, on average, 220 watts of solar energy per hour of daylight in the winter, whereas the same window receives 40% less energy in the summer. In the winter, the lower sun strikes the windows more directly than in the summer when the sun is higher. The south-facing windows in this house receive sunshine for only seven hours (8:30 am to 3:30 pm) during summer and receive the full ten hours of sunshine during the winter.Ģ) The summer sun is higher in the sky than the winter sun. For example, a house in Long Beach, California located at 33° 48’ latitude in the northern hemisphere experiences about fourteen hours of daylight (5:30 am to 7:30 pm) on Summer Solstice (June 21) and ten hours of daylight (7:30 am to 5:30 pm) on Winter Solstice (December 21). In winter, the opposite is true - sun rises and sets south of the window therefore, south-facing windows are subject to incident sunlight for the entire length of the solar day. Two factors contribute to this:ġ) Although the sun rises earlier in the summer, it remains north of the window before it sets in the afternoon. Unlike what some might suspect, the total solar energy incident on a south-facing window is greater during the winter than in the summer in spite of the fact that days are longer in the summer. The opposite is true in the southern hemisphere ( a). As winter proceeds into spring and summer, the sun rises earlier in the morning, moves higher in the sky, reaches its highest point at noon, and sets later in the afternoon (See Figure 1). It may also be noted that, in the northern hemisphere, the sun rises south of due east in winter and north of due east in summer. It is a common experience that the sun rises higher in the sky in summer than winter. Figure 2 Earth travels around the sun along an elliptical orbit about once every 365 days. 8/25/2023 0 Comments Sacred geometry hand tattooBeautiful mandala tattoo that break in half on each armħ4.
